Hi Rachel, It is a funny feeling to be writing to a Rachel Kluesner, as my daughter-in-law is also Rachel Kluesner My husband, Larry, and his family came from Black Walnut in St. Charles County, Missouri. His oldest brother was Ronnie, but he was killed in a car accident in 1957. Larry is the next oldest and was born in 1945; Danny was born in 1948; Tom was born in 1951; and Terry was born in 1954. Their parents were Ervin "Peewee" and Erna (Ehlmann) Kluesner. Ervin's parents were Herman and Emma (Koch) Kluesner, and his grandparents were William A. and Wilhelmine (Windmueller) Kluesner. They all lived in the St. Charles County area. Larry and I now live in Crestwood, Missouri, but spend a great deal of time in St. Charles as most of our relatives still live there. Larry's brother, Tom, lives in Dutzow, and is known around the Washington area. Our Kluesner's came from Oppendorf #22 near Wehdem, Westphalen, Germany. I have a great deal of information on the family, but I have never found any direct linkage to the Cape Girardeau or the Washington Kluesner's. There is also a very large group of Kluesner's in Iowa. Rachel, I am afraid to ask, but are you related to Bill Kluesner who was killed so tragically yesterday? We have had so many friends call and ask if we knew him. I did not, but Larry's brother, Tom, was very good friends with him. If you need any more assistance, please ask. Betty Kluesner
Larry's grandmother died in December of 1948 in St. Charles. . . . On the day of Emma (Koch) Kluesner's funeral, the group of people mentioned in the article headed to St. Charles to attend. Then the terrible accident occurred. I do have pictures of the car. The people at the funeral were so surprised that no one showed up from Fayette and they were very worried. Of course, they finally received the terrible news.
Larry's Aunt Inez Kluesner is still living in St. Charles and she will be 96 in March. She remembers it all very clearly. I keep in touch with the daughter of the couple, Wanda and Edward Humfeld. Debbie was only two years old at the time and was left at home when they left to attend the funeral.
