Additional Information

Oliver Mellowes:

Notes:

Oliver was the son of Abraham and Mary Bulkley Mellows probably from Odell, Bedfordshire.

Mellow,Mellows,Mellowes "Oliver Mellow dyed -" (sic) - Boston Returns of Braintree records. This was in 1638 as Elizabeth Mellowes was granted administration on his estate 5th 10th (mo) 1638 and the inventory totaling £210/19/0 was dated the 12th day of 9th month called November 1638, and mentions a dwelling house and garden and ground about it, and includes a "lott at Mount Woolystone conteyning 80 acres £20". Oliver Mellowes and wife Elizabeth were admitted to the Church in Boston, Mass. Jul.20,1634, and he became freeman Sep.3,1634, and was disarmed in 1637 as one of the supporters of Mrs. Anne Hutchinson. His widow Elizabeth married thirdly, as second wife, Thomas Makepeace of Dorchester and was granted a letter of recommendation to the Dorchester church as wife of Mr. Makepeace "25th day of ye 5th mo. 1641." Thomas Makepeace of Boston petitioned the General Court for the right to sell a house and land in Braintree for the benefit of the six children of Oliver Mellows and gave security with the eldest son John to pay the others portions, which was granted May 22,1651. (See American Genealogist Vol.11, and Bulkely Gen.) Col. C.E. Banks says Abraham Mellowes came from Odell, Bedfordshire.
