MY 8TH GREAT GRANDFATHER,
Thomas was born to Thomas and Mary (Prescott) Sawyer, the first born of 14 children.He was a Blacksmith, Millwright, and Builder. On Sept. 21, 1672, he married his 2nd wife, Hannah Lewis of Lancaster, b. March 18, 1649. dau. of William and Amy (Weld) Lewis. They were the parents of Joseph b.1683, d.1737, my 7th great grandfather. Other children were Mary b.1671, Bezaleel b.1673, Hannah, b.1675, William b.1679, Bezaleel b.1685, and Elias b.1687.

Mary was the widow of Jonathan Fairbank of Lancaster, who was killed by Indians with two of their children, Sept 11, 1697. They were Jonathan Fairbank, age 31, Grace Fairbank and Jonas Fairbank, daughter and son. Mary was taken Prisoner. Here's a report from the MLWhite history:
Mary was taken prisoner at the same time (11 SEP 1697). While with the Indians she learned to doctor with roots and herbs and practiced the art during her life.

Indians attacked the house, murdered the
family, and carried her into captivity, where she remained three or four years, when she was ransomed by the Government, and restored to her friends. When she was captured, she was about to be married; her intended, considering her lost to him forever, resolved never to marry; but on her return repented of his folly. They moved to Shrewsbury, where he d. 1742. She d. Aug. 18, 1764, aged 89. It is said that she never fully recovered from the fright of her capture.
