Hello and thanks for your inquiry.
The connection of the Wintermantle family to mine is by marriage through
Herman O. Wintermantle (b. 1875 in Iowa). He married Emma Wenger (my
blood relative) on June 27, 1900 in Marion County, Oregon. They had two
children that I am aware of: Mabel (b. about 1901) and Pearl (b. about
1903).
This family has been a dead end in my research. They apparently
disappeared from Oregon in the early 1900s to places unknown. I hope
someday to find out where they went and what became of them. I'm afraid
that I can't offer much information on the Wintermantle family itself, as
I have not attempted to trace that family to its roots.

Four Other Members of the Portland Party are Saved From River
Portland, Ore. Aug. 20 (AP) Surviving members of three Portland families today mourned five relatives drowned on a Sunday afternoon boating party on the Columbia River. One family lost mother and son; another mourned a father and daughter; and a third lost a son.
The five were drowned when a narrow 15-foot outboard motor boat turned suddenly and capsized. Mrs. O. G. McCann and her son Delbert, were killed. Mr. McCann and his daughter Orva, were saved. Police still were dragging the river for the bodies of Marvin Gholson, 37, and his six year old daughter, Audrey. Mrs. Gholson and her daughter, Jean, 7, stayed afloat with an automobile inner tube until they were pulled to shore. Billy Nelson, a youth, clung to the overturned boat for a time, but sank before rescuers could reach him.
C.G. Johnson, a witness to the accident; Arthur Reeves, Robert Blair and Jack Buckner, caddies from a nearby golf course, and a man known only as "Carl" rescued the four persons and also pulled out three bodies. Police resuscitation equipment proved ineffective."3Patsy Clark Email, 17 Mar 2004.
