Born Jan. 22, 1910, in Green City, Mo., she was the daughter of Robert and Grace Efnor Balis. She was married Jan. 14, 1945, in Denver, to David Eugene McCall, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Thomas Greene of Erie and Jack Greene of Clearwater, Fla.; a daughter, Lona Jean McCall Smith of Laguna Hills; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at Mount Zion Cemetery, Sligo, with the Rev. James Dietrich officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Clarion-Forest VNA, 305 N. Main St., Knox, 16232. The Derrick - June 5, 2004 submitted by Pamela Myers-Grewell.

Thomas R. Greene, 78, of North East, died Friday morning January 29, 2010 at St. Vincent Health Center following a brief illness. A resident of the Erie area most of his life he was born in Denver, CO on September 6, 1931 a son of the late Cleo T. Greene and Lonabelle Balis Greene McCall.
Tom was a self-employed barber at Tom Greene & Co. for over 55 years. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a former Mason. He served on the Diversion Committee of Millcreek Township and was a member of the North East American Legion. He was an avid golfer.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Phyllis Bradish Greene; two daughters, Nixie Greene of Pittsburgh and Gini Cunningham and her husband Tom of North East; two sons Michael Greene and his wife Katie of Erie, and Thomas Greene of North East; one brother, Jack Greene and his wife Jeanne of Clearwater, FL; two half-sisters, Debbie Dinges and her husband Tim of Brighton, CO, and Lonajean Smith and her husband Chuck of Laguna Beach, CA; six grandchildren, Christopher, Kate, and Joe Schroeck, Dan and Heather Manczka, and Hannah Greene.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road (corner of East Gore Rd. and Pine Ave.) on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to a memorial service there on Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m.. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Emmaus Soup Kitchen, 218 East 11th St., Erie, 16503."

Balis, Clough. Would be glad of help in tracing the lineage of Abiah Balis and his wife Maria Clough, who had sisters Hannah and Caroline Clough. These Cloughs were born in Kinderhook, N. Y. After marriage she lived in Ontario County, N. Y., and Barcelona Harbor, N. Y., afterward moving to Crawford County, Pa.; then to Wisconsin. Children of Abiah and Maria Balis: George, Abraham, Luther, Thomas, Henry, Caroline, and Julia.
The article/request was written by a "J. R. B. S." I am imagining that one back in 1912 would write to the newspaper with a response, giving the reference number (the Balis, Clough entry was #3 of 9 questions this particular person wrote).".
