Rites were held in Morgan Hill today for Mrs. Verna P. Luth, 53, former nurse at O'Connor and County hospitals, who died Sunday after a month's illness.
Services were conducted in Johnson Funeral Home, with interment following in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Mrs. Luth, a native of Wisconsin, came to this area more than thirty years ago.  Her home was at 456 Mashall Ave.
After receiving her nurses' training at County Hospital, Mrs. Luth worked there seven years.  She was employed at O'Connor when she became ill.
She leaves her husband, Henry; a son and two daughters, John and Henrietta P. Luth, both of San Jose, and Mrs. Betty Hicks of Washington; two sisters, Mrs. Almeda Filice of Gilroy and Mrs. Ruby Erler of Michigan, and four grandchildren."

Della was raised with the help of Caroline Bealer Christie. You can read in her obituary on this site how she was like a mother to Della (Mrs. Geo Iffland) and her nephew Thomas F. Burge, the son of her sister Almira Bealer Burge. Almira's husband died when Thomas was an infant, similar to Henry's wife Eva dying when Della was an infant."

James  was born August 10, 1879, the son of Samuel and Lucy Janette (Nutting) Martindale.  His father was born in Vermont and is mother was a native of Jefferson Co., New York.  Both parents are buried in the Weston East Cemetery which is now known as "Chapel Hill".  Lillian (b. 2 May 1886 Neillsville, WI, d. Mar 1969 Portland, Multnomah, OR), the daughter of Hans and Emma Hanson and James were married March 8, 1905 (pg. 5, Vol. 3).  James was a restaurant manager and at the time of the 1920 Census, they were managing the Kirby Apt. House on E. Morrison St. in Portland, OR.  James died in March, 1965 in Oregon."

Lawrence Edwin Hicks

Lawrence “Larry” Edwin Hicks, 89, of Sunnyside, WA passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 in Sunnyside, WA. Larry was born on April 5, 1922 in Pasco, WA the son of Callie T. and Elizabeth Mae (Kinney) Hicks. Larry graduated from Waitsburg High School with the Class of 1940. Larry served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1945. On January 6, 1945 he married Ruby (Bette) Luth in San Jose, CA. Larry worked as a laborer/foreman for J.A. Jones at Hanford until he retired in 1984. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, bowling, playing a card game called “Happy” at family reunions and he loved to laugh and joke around. Larry was a member of the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church. Larry is survived by his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Ruby (Bette) E. Hicks of Sunnyside, WA. Children, April Flansburg; Robert (Jenny) Hicks all of Sunnyside; and Merrylee Celius; Daughter-in-law, Susan Hicks. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Gary and Fred Flansburg, Tina, Trisha and Trena Hicks, Lorrie and Patrick Hicks, Traci and Oscar Celius, twenty-three great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Four sisters, Violet Whitney (Clyde) and Nellie Voss (Gerald) all of Warden, WA; Mickey Hancock (Richard) of Prosser, WA and Jenny Underwood (Bill) of West Richland, WA. He is preceded in death by his parents, Callie T. and Elizabeth (Mae) Hicks; one son, Theodore (Ted) Hicks; three sisters, Betty Browning, Ellen Withers and Pearl Farnworth. Viewing and visitation will be on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 from 12:00 (Noon) to 8:00 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, WA. Private family interment will be Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 12:00 (Noon) at the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church. Those wishing to honor Larry’s memory may contribute to the Lower Valley Hospice.
