Porley Henry CLARK

2Lofgren, Carol-editor, Stone Lake, Wisconsin, Historical Album, Second Edition, 1977, p.5. "Recollections of People and Places and Times gone by...". "In 1917, John L. Clark arrived in the area and began to farm the area where Bob Thrasher's farm is today.  His son Carl came with him and sometime shortly after that, son Porley arrived on the scene.  Porley became acquainted with Grandpa Wakefield, and Belle Clark reports that even though she thought Porley was the most wonderful boy she had ever met, her nose was somewhat out of joint because her grandpa liked Porley as much as he liked her.  Soon Porley and Belle were married, and they lived in the log house with Grandma and Grandpa Wakefield.  At age 70, Grandpa Wakefield had a new house built and moved into it, leaving Porley, Belle and new baby Jessie (Weigand) in the original homestead.  Porley's brother Carl met and married June Wakefield, so the brothers ended up marrying cousins."

"The Wakefields lived in a log cabin that Frank built, and in an attempt to make the cabin more beautiful and to keep the harsh winter winds from whistling through the logs, Belle bought wallpaper, and with painstaking labor, she wall poapered the interior of the home.  Needless to say, the job wasn't too permanent, and soon the wallpaper began peeling off the logs. Soon after, Frank mixed a batch of cement and caulked the air space betweeb the logs."
