Premo, Muriel M. 92 Nov. 19, 1922 July 11, 2015 Muriel M. (Moore) Premo passed away early Saturday morning, July 11, 2015, at the age of 92. Muriel was born Nov. 19, 1922, at St. Vincent Hospital, Portland, to Harold W. and Violet M. Moore. She attended Jefferson and Grant high schools before entering the U.S. Navy, becoming a WAVE in World War II. While in military service, she was based in San Francisco and Hawaii as the secretary to the administrative staff. When she returned to Portland, she became a legal secretary until she met and married Charles A. Premo (deceased 2002), a local contractor, while attending First Presbyterian Church. Muriel worked as an administrative assistant for Long and Maxwell, a local engineering firm, as well as her husband's bookkeeper for their contracting business. Muriel was active in her local garden club and sang in the choir at Multnomah Presbyterian Church. Until recent years, she served and participated in two local charities, Portland Monday Musical Club and local PEO chapter CH which raise funds for scholarships for young students. Muriel learned how to use a computer at the age of 65 and used that skill for her charity work, designing brochures, tickets and programs for charity events. Contributions may be made to Monday Musical or a PEO chapter. Muriel is survived by her daughters, Pamela S. Grahn (Mar- lin) and Janice C. Premo who also reside locally; grandchildren, Jennifer P. Grahn and Jarrod D. Grahn (Brittany); and great-grandchildren, Jaidyn, Jordyne, Kason, Cameron and Logan who live in the Portland area. A memorial service will be held at noon Tuesday, July 21, 2015, in Ross Hollwood Chapel, 4733 N.E. Thompson St., Portland, www.rosshollywoodfuneralchapel.com.

Vera M. Janke, 93, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2012 at Tompkins Memorial Health Center. The Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family.
Survivors include her sons, Bruce and his wife Ellen of Ames; Doug and his wife Jodie of Fort Dodge; 4 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren, She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett A. and Mary Annetta (Hall) Wintermantel; son, Warren Janke; and her husband Wilfred; great grandson, Sam Holsapple; sisters, Joyce Oothoudt and Lois Donaldson; and her brothers, Morris and Myron Wintermantel. Vera May Janke was born on December 26, 1918 in Hull, IA. She attended schools there and graduated from Hull High School in 1937. Vera then attended the Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux City where she received her B.S. Degree in 1940. She followed her nursing profession as a general duty nurse at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, IA, and as an office nurse in Sioux City. During WWII, from July, of 1944 to June, of 1946 Vera served in the U.S. Navy as a nurse; serving at Naval Hospitals in Farragut, ID, and San Diego, CA. In later years, she also served briefly as a general duty nurse in the Battle Creek Hospital and Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge. On April 6, 1947 she was united in marriage to Pastor Wilfred Harold Janke at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sioux City. The couple made their home in the following towns where her husband served as pastor, Missouri Valley, IA at First Lutheran Church for 5 years; Battle Creek, IA at St. John’s Lutheran Church for 8 years, and Fort Dodge, IA at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church for 27 years. Vera was dedicated to her family and proud to be a pastor’s wife who always did what she could to be as supportive as possible to Wilfred and the congregations that he served.

Lois Luella Donaldson, 82, died Saturday, August 8, 2009, after an extended illness. She was in her home, surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday evening, and services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, both at the Adams Funeral Home, located at 502 Douglas in Ames.
Lois was born June 9, 1927, to Annetta and Emmett Wintermantel in Hull, Iowa. She graduated valedictorian of her high school class in Elkhart, IA. After a year at Iowa Teacher's College (UNI), she took a position with the Des Moines Register and Tribune. While living in Des Moines, she met her husband, Jay Donaldson; they married in 1951 and settled in Jay's home town of Milford, Iowa where they started a manufacturing business, Milford Engineering.
In 1965, they moved their family to Ames, Iowa and lived there for ten years. In 1975, Lois and Jay moved to Cedar Rapids where they spent the next 26 years. Lois was employed by Rockwell Collins from 1986?1992. In 2001, they returned to Ames to be closer to family and friends.
Lois loved being a wife and mother. She also enjoyed using her creative gifts to assist others. Her strength and dedication to her family was inspirational, and she will stay in our hearts forever.
Lois is survived by her husband, Jay; two daughters, Anne Burgason and her husband Steve; Mary Clyde and her husband Todd; three sons, Lee Donaldson and his wife, Carla; Mark Donaldson and his wife, Sue; Jack Donaldson and his wife, Barbara; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
