Gladys L. Fuchs, 98, of Prairie du Sac/Blackhawk, died on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Fuchs was born in Viroqua on June 12, 1906, the daughter of the late James and Lillian (Yeager) Callaway. She was united in marriage to Benjamin Fuchs on June 15, 1927, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Blackhawk.
Mrs. Fuchs was a rural school teacher and taught elementary school at Witwen. She later was employed as a nursing assistant at Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital and Maplewood of Sauk Prairie. She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Blackhawk, and Concordia United Methodist Church, Prairie du Sac.
Mrs. Fuchs is survived by four children, Lillian Mueller, of Prairie du Sac, Albert (Priscilla) Fuchs, of Reedsburg, LaVerne (Lynda) Fuchs, of Janesville and Norma (Russell) Fenske, of North Freedom; a brother, Richard (Dottie) Callaway, of Las Vegas; two sisters, Betty (Roger) Andrew, of LaFarge and Blanche Allen, of Prairie du Sac; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ben; a grandson, John Albert Fuchs; three sisters, Helen Kirchstein, Mabel Strmiska and Bernice Swaddley; three brothers, Bernie, Harold and Willard Callaway and a son-in-law, Raymond Mueller.

Madison - Age 92, died on Saturday, May 19, 2018. He was born on Oct. 2, 1925, to Benjamin and Eva (Hofman) Finger in Rhinelander, Wis. Kendall enjoyed playing the trumpet and was the drum major in the Rhinelander High School band. He graduated in 1943, and then served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II from 1944 to 1946, where he was stationed on Guam in the South Pacific. After the war, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education from UW-Whitewater. Kendall's teaching career began in Drummond, Wis., and continued at Whitewater High School. He married Shirley Wintermantel in 1955, and they moved to Madison where he taught business classes at Madison East High School. Later, Kendall completed his Master's Degree in Education at UW-Madison and went on to work as the Director of Payroll and Purchasing for the Madison School District until he retired in June, 1987. Kendall was an active member of Lake Edge United Church of Christ, where he served as treasurer and in other leadership positions. He will be remembered for his devotion to his wife, children and grandchildren. Kendall's family was always first in his life. In retirement, Kendall enjoyed boating and fishing at his cottage near Lake Tomahawk. He also loved sports and was a fan of the Badgers and Packers. Kendall was preceded in death by his parents; brother; and wife. He is survived by his children, Mark (Linda) Finger of Madison, Todd (Joan) Finger of Fenton, Mo., and Jean (Ron) Thoni of Madison; grandchildren, Bethany and Brian Finger of Fenton, Mo., Kip (Brittany) Finger of Madison, Leigh (Danny) Schmitz of Rosemount, Minn., and Spencer and Alec Thoni of Madison. A Funeral Service will be held at FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 203 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018, with Pastor Mark Fowler presiding. She was born on Oct. 6, 1929, to George and Della (Kindschi) Wintermantel in Prairie du Sac. She graduated from Prairie du Sac High School in 1947. After attending North Central College in Naperville, Ill., she graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1951, with a Bachelor of Science Degree. From 1951 until 1953 she taught Home Economics in Richland Center Public Schools, and from 1953 to 1955 she continued her teaching in Whitewater Public Schools. Beginning in 1957, Shirley was a homemaker while raising three children. She served as Cub Scout Den Mother and taught Sunday School classes as well as being a loving wife. In 1971 she returned to teaching in the Madison Public Schools and continued that work until her retirement in 1987. She was a Member of American Association of University Women and Lake Edge United Church of Christ where she served the membership in many important capacities. She was also a member of the Wisconsin Educators' Association and the Madison Area Retired Educators. She will be remembered for her unselfishness and faithfulness to her family, church, friends and co-workers. In retirement, Shirley shared many enjoyable trips with her husband and family in all parts of Wisconsin and the United States, Canada, Switzerland, Germany and Austria. She enjoyed sports and was a lifelong Badgers and Packers fan. Shirley especially liked spending time at the family cottage near Lake Tomahawk, with family and friends while pontooning, swimming, observing wildlife and hiking in the woods. Her family was always first in her life and her grandchildren gave her great pleasure.
Shirley was preceeded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Ken; her children, Mark (Linda) Finger of Madison, Todd (Joan) Finger of Fenton, Mo., and Jean (Ron) Thoni of Madison; six grandchildren, Bethany and Brian Finger of Fenton, Mo., Kip and Leigh Fenton of Spencer and Alec Thoni of Madison; sister, Janice Bender of Prairie du Sac; and cousins, nephews and nieces.
Funeral services w3ill be held at Lake Edge United Church of Christ, 4200 Buckeye Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, with the Rev. Lex Liberatore presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug 22, 2013 and also at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. A luncheon will be served at the church following the burial.
Memorials may be given to Lake Edge United Church of Christ or Oakwood Village East Lutheran Homes. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com."
